Computer Printed Cachets
Part One

Because of the increased availability of home computers and color printers, computer printed cachets are becoming more popular with many collectors.  Public domain clipart allows creative people, who don't necessarily have a background in art, to create attractive cachets.  Depending on the type of printer used and the design skills of the creator, these cachets can vary dramatically in quality.   I have so many of this type of cachet that I've decided to split this section into two parts.

These cachets are often created by collectors for their own use or for trade.  Most of the following cachets were acquired from eBay.  If you have never been to eBay, you should check it out at www.ebay.com.  It's an amazing place for a collector looking for interesting or hard to find items.

WII CACHETS - DR WILLIAM SMITH

....

These three very nice WII covers were created by Dr. William Smith from Minneapolis MN.  They are all unnumbered.

I really like the stained glass window effect he used on the first two covers.  The silhouettes on these covers illustrate the proper position for performing a breast-self-exam.  The last cover features a reproduction of the Breast Cancer Awareness stamp from 1996 and the words "Help Fund Breast Cancer Research".

BF and FLAMINGO CACHETS - BOB FRITZ

....

....

....

These seven very nice add-on covers were created by Bob Fritz from Oklahoma City OK.  The first two are from his BF Cachet line and are combo covers, featuring the semipostal stamp and the Breast Cancer Awareness stamp issued in 1996.  The other five covers are from his Flamingo Cachet line.

The first BF add-on cachet features a nice reproduction of the semipostal stamp and a pink ribbon.  It is number seven of ten.  The cover also also includes some informative text which I've recreated below for your convenience:

The Breast Cancer Research semipostal stamp was designed by Ethel Kessler, a breast cancer survivor.  She considers the final design an "acknowledgment of the fight to find the strength to overcome the diagnosis."

The second BF add-on cachet features the logo for the Triple Touch program of the American Cancer Society and is number two of two.  The Triple Touch program encourages women to perform regular breast-self-examinations.

The first Flamingo add-on cachet features a beautiful image of three women with the headline "Breast Cancer Awareness."  It is number ten of twenty.  The second Flamingo add-on cachet is my personal favorite of the seven covers.  It features an outstanding image of a woman's face combined with a flower and the words "Don't Let The Flower Die Support Breast Cancer Research."  This cover is also number ten of twenty.

The next two Flamingo add-on cachets feature different versions of the Breast Cancer Network logo from the American Cancer Society.  They are both number eleven of fifteen.

The final Flamingo add-on cachet features a beautiful logo from the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure and a pink ribbon.  The cover is number two of two.  This event raises much needed money for Breast Cancer Research.

RRAGS CACHET - ROBERT and REBECCA SMITH

This nice combination RRAGS Cachet was created by Robert and Rebecca Smith from Alaska and is number three of ten.  Robert and his wife Rebecca have made quite a splash in the first day cover scene this year.  They won the Rookie of the Year Honorable Mention Earl Planty Award at Americover 99 last August.  I'm sure we haven't seen the last of this talented couple.

PERTZ CACHET - BILL PETZBORN

This very nice Pertz Cachet was created by Bill Petzborn from Willcox AZ and is number five of five.  I've had several people comment to me how much they liked this cachet.  It features a wonderful photograph of a National Breast Cancer Coalition march against the disease.  I would like to find out more about the cachetmaker.  If you can add anything, please drop me a note.

RED DOG COVER - KATHLEEN CLEMENTS and MAUREEN COSTALES

This nice Red Dog Cover was created by Kathleen Clements from Los Angeles CA, with artwork designed by her friend and employer, Maureen Costales from Playa del Rey CA.  The artificial watermarks on the cover is typical of her design work.

Maureen created her cachet on flat sheets of paper with a color inkjet printer and then gave them to Kathleen.  Kathleen took care of everything else.  The only thing she didn't do was design the cachet.  She folded the flat sheets into envelopes, attached the stamps and sent the covers off to the USPS for servicing.

I've been told that Maureen has no interest in stamps and is not a collector.  She only designed six different cachets in 1998 and has done none since.  This cover is number two of fifteen.

H & H CACHET - PHYLLIS HESS

This interesting H & H Cachet was created by Phyllis Hess from Blytheville AK and is unnumbered.  The print quality is a little fuzzy, and the design is not among my favorites, however, I feel it's important to include my complete collection in this exhibit.

DGW CACHET - DWIGHT WALLACE

This interesting DGW Cachet was created by Dwight Wallace from St. Joseph MO.  It takes a slightly different point-of-view, by pointing out the post office's active participation in collecting the money for this worthy cause.

JUBAL E CACHETS - DAVE SHAW

....

These two Jubal E Cachets were created by Dave Shaw from Burke VA.  The touching first cachet was made to honor his mother-in-law who died of Breast Cancer in 1977.  The second cachet promotes the Susan G. Komen Foundation's fundraising event for breast cancer.  The nationwide running event is called The Race For the Cure.  Both are unnumbered.

JACK GINSBURG

....

These two combination covers were created by Jack Ginsburg from Springfield VA.  The first cover features a beautiful 1910 painting by Mary Cassatt titled Sleepy Baby.  The second cachet features a 1907 painting from Pablo Picasso titled Demoiselles d'Avignon.  Both covers are unnumbered.

JUVELAR CACHETS - LARRY CHURCH

....

This beautiful Juvelar Cover and Souvenir Card was created by Larry Church from Concord CA.  The cachet was designed by J. Vita. The cover includes a very informative insert and is number ten of fifty.  The souvenir card measures 5 1/2 x 8 1/2 inches and includes a block of four stamps.  It is number two of six.

COMPUCHET CACHETS - HELEN FOWLER

....

These two very nice ComPuChet Covers were made by Helen Fowler from Niles MI and feature a rather explicit image of a woman performing BSE.  They both also include a copy of Helen's personal ultra sound showing an image of her own breast cancer.

The first cover was serviced with the official FDOI pictorial cancel and is number four of twenty-one made.  The second cover was canceled with an unofficial first day cancel from Niles MI and is unnumbered.  The two cachets are nearly identical, however, they appear to have been printed in slightly different colored ink.  Both include the phrase "Early Detection Means Life"
