It's not due to the fact that the Nordiques have moved south to Denver and are now the Colorado Avalanche. Nor is it due to the fact that Quebec lost out to Salt Lake City for the 2002 Winter Olympic games. No it's due to their Francophilean obsession to secede from the remainder of Canada. On October 30, 1995 they went to the polls to vote either Oui or Non on whether Quebec should secede from Canada.
