CHAPTER I. "HER MAJESTY'S ROCK OF THE WEST"
We begin this adventure with a journey into history. First experience the Mutiny and later the arrival of H.M.A.V. Bounty at Pitcairn's Island January 15, 1790, eight and one-half months after the Mutiny. Endure the hardships of the eighteen hundreds, then follow the people into the 20th Century.
CHAPTER II. "THE PEOPLE, PART ONE"
Here is a chance to acquaint ourselves with the people. Learn where some of them live and experience Adamstown life along the way.
CHAPTER III. "THE PEOPLE, PART TWO"
The sixteen students of Pulau are the main feature. We visit the dispensary, then deal with a tragic fire at Big Fence. Next a visit to the Island's only house of worship the Seventh Day Adventist Church.
CHAPTER IV. "COMMUNICATIONS"
Dedicated to my late friend Andrew Young, Pitcairn's first Radio Officer, this chapter deals primarily with communications. "Hear Andrew tell in his own words about the first radio message received and the first radio message sent." In addition, we offer a tour through the Panama Canal. Andrew takes us to Tedside, the western harbor. An airdrop, a rare occurrence, is on the agenda.
CHAPTER V. "SABBATH DAY! SABBATH DAY!"
Andrew tells about a very special Sabbath Day answer to prayer. Enjoy a partial tour of the island as you experience a Sabbath Day walk among the hills and valleys including "Goathouse Peak", "Long Ridge", "St. Paul's Point" "Down Rope" and the ever captivating "Tautama" ending with an evening in Adamstown square.
CHAPTER VI. "BITTERSWEET"
In this chapter go to sea with the twelve able-bodied men of Adamstown and board the Act 6 one of the island supply ships. Next, witness the burning of postage stamps, the sale of which is the peoples chief source of income. Len Brown will demonstrate the saw mill. The funeral of John Christian brings Chapter Six to a close.
CHAPTER VII. "ADAMSTOWN YESTERDAY AND TODAY"
Tour parts of old Adamstown where memories evoke the plight of past generations. Then take part in the annual arrowroot harvest. Adamstown is a farming community. Follow along while Nola Warren and Betty Christian lead us through some of their daily chores. A profile featuring Reynold and Nola Warren will examine an average days' activities.
CHAPTER VIII. "HENDERSON ISLAND"
This chapter begins with a true account of the "Wreck Of The Whale Ship Essex". Following this segment we sail on to Henderson Island and harvest Miro wood used in the carving of curios, a longtime Pitcairn tradition. Andrew Young tells of a previous return trip from Henderson Island. Next, there is a near tragic medical emergency evacuation to Tahiti via Rikitea, Mangareva, three hundred miles away.
CHAPTER IX. "SEASONS WAY"
Multi-faceted, this chapter furthers our insight into the lives of the Pitcairn people. There is the sugar cane harvest, Christmas polling day and a haunting visit to Gudgeon Harbor. Experience a flashback to Bounty Day 1850. Then cruise ships "Sagafjord" and "Europa" drop anchor in the lee.
CHAPTER X. "THE ESMERALDA AND OENO ATOLL"
Begin this chapter with a pleasant surprise, an official visit to Pitcairn by the Chilean naval training vessel, "B.E. ESMERALDA". Then the Pitcairners go on vacation. Nearly the entire population escapes to a small coral island and gorgeous blue lagoon, it is Oeno Atoll. An authentic account of the "Wreck Of The Wild Wave", a clipper of fifteen hundred tons, is featured.
CHAPTER XI. "1990 BICENTENNIAL CELEBRATION, PART I"
Attend a historic reunion between the people of Norfolk and Pitcairn Islands. Descendants of Bounty families who settled Norfolk Island following the exodus from Pitcairn in 1856, arrive aboard the island trader, "Taporo II". Also accompany the author on his second arrival at Pitcairn after a five year absence, then experience the Bicentennial celebration.
CHAPTER XII. "FRIENDS FROM AFAR AND FAREWELL"
The Bicentennial celebration continues. Begin with Bounty Day 1990, and discover the visitors who came from many parts of the globe. There is a public letter from Her Majesty Elizabeth R and a personal visit by His Excellency Mr. Robin Byatt, Governor of the Pitcairn Islands. To conclude a Pitcairn farewell.
